The bimetallic steam trap is a condensate discharge element working on the thermostatic principle. Thermostatic traps follow the steam saturation curve at a fixed offset and so discharge condensate and non-condensable gases from the steam line.
These products can be used without difficulty in heavy and demanding service conditions and are not affected by water hammer. They are regarded as the ideal trap for superheated steam applications in particular.
WHAT IS A BIMETALLIC STEAM TRAP?
A bimetal is an element made of two different metals bonded together. A bimetallic steam trap is therefore a trap that discharges condensate by means of bimetal plates working on thermostatic principles.
FIELDS OF USE
Bimetallic steam traps are applied on heaters, steam manifolds, main steam line ends, superheated steam lines, tracing lines, drying units, condensate pockets, pressing units, convector heaters and steam jacketed pipes.
The working principle is the same as that of a thermostatic trap. Here the bimetal plates take over the function of the bellows: condensate is discharged through the plates, which follow the saturated steam curve in parallel and release the condensate as it cools.
