Check Valves
A spring loaded check valve allows flow in one direction only: the pressure on the sealing element lifts it and lets the fluid through, and the spring closes the valve as soon as the flow stops or reverses. Because it seals metal to metal, it is ideal for systems exposed to high temperature.
Fitted downstream of a pump it prevents the line from draining back and protects the impeller from reverse rotation; on a steam or hot water header it stops one branch from feeding back into another.
