Foam extinguishing systems are chosen for fires in highly flammable chemicals or fuels that cannot be put out with water. The fire fighting foam used as the extinguishing medium covers the burning surface and cuts off its contact with air. The three basic components of a foam system are foam solution, water and air. The foam solution expands under pressure with the help of water and air and is discharged into the space through nozzles. The foam used also produces a cooling effect.
