Steam Traps

Inverted Bucket Steam Traps

Steam traps should be installed in a position and at a place that is easy to reach for maintenance. The differential pressure on the product label must be greater than the differential pressure of the system. The trap must be installed horizontally so that the bucket moves vertically up and down. The connections of a horizontal trap are horizontal and those of a vertical trap are vertical, with the inlet at the bottom. The trap must be installed below the discharge level so that a water seal can form around the bucket.

  1. Install the trap below and close to the equipment whose condensate it will discharge. Avoid a long horizontal run of pipe ahead of the trap.
  2. To prevent potential water hammer, all horizontal lines must fall towards the trap.
  3. On every model a strainer must be installed ahead of the trap.
  4. Fit a union and an isolating valve on both sides of the trap so that it can be removed and refitted easily for testing or other purposes.
  5. Release the pressure safely before maintenance.
