OS&Y Rising Stem Gate Valves

These are defined as zone control valves. They are used as isolating valves on water supply lines to separate — that is, to control — the zones within a building. Either a butterfly valve or a rising stem gate valve is used for isolation or control. The rising stem gate valve is a gate valve type that does not disturb the flow in the fully open position, whose open position can be seen from the up and down movement of the stem, and which can be monitored electrically with a tamper switch. It creates less hydraulic loss than a butterfly valve.
