Safety Relief Valves

A safety relief valve is the valve mechanism that automatically releases pressure when a steam boiler, pressure vessel or other system reaches its set limit pressure or temperature. The boiler and tank explosions of the early industrial period are the reason these valves became mandatory.

Safety valves also protect equipment such as heat exchangers and pressure vessels. Relief valves of other types help to stabilise the pressure by discharging the excess.
