Sidewall Sprinklers

The standard response sidewall sprinkler is easy to use and highly reliable. Sprinklers are placed on a purpose-designed pipe network so as to cover the area that needs protection. The liquid in the glass bulb — one of the key parts of the sealing element — expands with the heat produced by the fire and bursts the bulb. The temperature rating must be chosen 30 °C above the maximum ambient temperature expected. When the bulb bursts, the water under pressure strikes the deflector and is sprayed over the fire. Only the sprinklers that see the temperature rise operate, and water flows there.

Sidewall sprinklers are used where there is no suspended ceiling and the pipework will not be visible in the ceiling. They are mounted on the wall and throw the water forward and downward. They are used only in wet systems and in low and ordinary hazard classes, on projects such as housing, hotels, hospitals, dormitories and shopping centres.
