Shell and Tube Heat Exchangers

In a brazed plate heat exchanger the plate pack is brazed with copper or nickel instead of being clamped with gaskets. That makes the unit compact and leak-free, and lets it work at higher pressures than a gasketed exchanger.
Because the pack cannot be opened, brazed units are specified where the fluids are clean — heating substations, boiler circuits, heat pumps and refrigeration. Nickel brazing is chosen where copper would be attacked by the fluid.
